Today, I’m gonna tell you about my best friend, Nguyen, who is super passionate about helping underprivileged children. To begin with, Nguyen and I have been pals for a decade. He is not just my best buddy as he seems more like an inspiration to me.
In terms of his personality, three adjectives that could be used to best describe him are ambitious, intelligent and hardworking. He always makes his parents proud of him by achieving so many scholarships from our college and businesses as a whole.
However, I’m convinced that the most notable fact about this boy is that despite coming from a humble background, he’s willing to devote a large amount of time and money to helping financially disadvantaged kids. As a high-flyer, he is cognizant of the power of education and its paramount impacts on such children’s future. More specifically, after class hours, he runs an English class which is totally free of charge for orphans or those born to poor parents in his neighborhood. On top of that, he is also the president of DVC, our university’s volunteering club. Once every six months, Nguyen and I, accompanied by other club members, usually go on a long trip to a few mountainous areas in Vietnam to provide minority children food, books, stationery and other necessities.
All in all, he is a real-life role model with many attributes that I can learn from. The more I’m with him, the more loving and caring I’ve become. I wish that he could stay strong and determined to pursue his passion and help more children along the way.

Câu trả lời mẫu Speaking Part 3: Describe someone you know who often helps others
1. How can children help their parents at home?
Well, as far as I’m concerned, there are various household chores that children can be engaged in to support their parents. However, this depends heavily on their age. For young children, parents can tell them to clean up after playing with their toys or prepare before the meals. Regarding those who are older, they should be encouraged to tidy up their own rooms or help with grocery shopping.
- be engaged in: được tham gia vào
- clean up: dọn dẹp
- tidy up: dọn dẹp
- grocery shopping: mua sắm hàng tạp hóa
2. Should children be taught to help others?
Yes, definitely. I am of the opinion that kids who have been taught to be generous and supportive to those in need can be given countless opportunities to become better individuals when they grow up. For the most part, this would help them to be more sensitive to the others’ needs than being too focused on what only benefits them, which enables them to develop empathy and compassion for others. On top of that, when helping others, they can learn how to build up relationships with others and how to be a good team player, which are essential interpersonal skills for their lives.
- those in need: những người cần
- be given countless opportunities: được trao vô số cơ hội
- empathy: sự đồng cảm
- compassion: lòng trắc ẩn
- build up relationships: xây dựng mối quan hệ
- a good team player: một người chơi tốt trong nhóm
- interpersonal skills: kỹ năng giao tiếp
3. What makes children help each other at school?
I hold the opinion that they can either be taught to do so or learn from other school kids. Concerning the former, teachers can encourage children to get involved in group activities which require them to closely cooperate with their friends and support one another to achieve the collective goal. Turning to the latter, If children receive assistance from other kids when they are in trouble, perhaps they’ll feel good about it and want to assist other children in a similar situation.
- get involved in: tham gia vào
- the collective goal: mục tiêu tập thể
- in trouble: gặp rắc rối
